Merry meet!
I'm almost 60 yrs. old but did not come to fully
practice witchcraft until late in my 40s (before this,
very hard to come out of the "closet"); and did so from
seeing my daughter embrace the old ways.
So my question is = Does the "title" crone come because
of age or experience an?
Blessed Be - Tammar
Hi Tammar,
In the “old” sense of the word it meant someone who was
aged and experienced- a wise woman. Generally this was a
woman who no longer was menstruating. Today it is often
used as a self label rather than a titled that is
bestowed upon one by community or when one has reached a
passage in life.
As to whether you can or should call yourself a crone,
this depends upon whether you believe the title should
be bestowed or claimed by yourself.
As an example, do you call yourself a witch? Would you
do so even if others claimed you weren’t? Is being a
witch something one feels them to be or is it something
defined by the culture in which one lives?
In the Goddess’s Charge she ends with the statement” for
that which you seek is not found within you, you will
never find it without”.
Hoping these are thoughts for you to ponder. :D
